In 2011, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported the long term project titled "Educational Institute for Democracy and Civil Society in Eastern Ukraine, second year”.
The project was divided into several activities: basic course, continuous seminar I, continuous seminar II, practical course, the publication of a study brochure, and a ten-day study visit (the CDK Winter School) in the Czech Republic for five most successful students.
Basic course took place in March 2011 and students gained basic information on how democracy and civil society function based on examples from the Czech transition period and the gradual growth of the Czech non-profit sector.
The continuous seminar I was in May 2011 and students learned about the main issues of European integration, gained information about EU institutions and policies, and EU expansion, and became aware of current EU affairs and trends in the Eastern European area.
The continuous seminar II took place in September 2011; students participated in a theoretical course focused on the project writing, project and financial management, and project financing. Each student, individually or in groups, prepared a project proposal to discuss at the practical course in November. CDK received twelve project proposals for evaluation. After the end of this project, at least one student applied to British and US donor with his project.
Fifty students who had participated in lectures during the year and passed tests were granted certificates in the lifelong study program.
All students received a study brochure called “Civil Society. The Manual: Where and how to search a support”. Authors of the book tried to pass their practical experience in the field. The brochure was published and distributed by the Ukrainian publisher.
The five most successful students were also granted an opportunity to go to the Czech Republic and take part in a ten-day study visit, where they visited several institutions and organizations.
