(This article expired 01.07.2015.)

On 26 June 2014, a plenary meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers Group started in Buenos Aires. The Chairperson of the Group, Ambassador Veronika Kuchyňová Šmigolová of the Czech Republic, handed over the chairmanship to Ambassador Rafael Mariano Grossi, Permanent Representative of Argentina to International Organizations in Vienna.

Last year´s plenary meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers Group took place in Prague and concluded a three-years-long comprehensive review of the Group´s lists used to control transfers of sensitive items. During its chairpersonship, the Czech Republic contributed in a substantive manner to strengthening outreach of the Group to non-participating states that are important for the Nuclear Suppliers Group with respect to their nuclear programs.

The Nuclear Suppliers Group is a grouping of forty-eight supplier countries that strive for transparency and responsible behavior in exports of nuclear-related items, as well as so called dual-use items, i.e. goods that could be misused in the production of nuclear weapons and other nuclear explosive devices. The plenary meeting will deal, among other things, with the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs, licensing of transfers of safety and security related items, and outreach to non-participating states. On 23-25 June, the plenary meeting was preceded by meetings of licensing, enforcement and information exchange experts.
