On 29th November 2013, Petr Kaiser, the Special Envoy for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, meets with Shahar Shelef, Counsellor of the Embassy of the State of Israel, to discuss actual position of the Czech-Israeli cooperation in R&D; and its potential for the future. Further, the objective of the meeting was to inform Mr Shelef about the seminar „Supporting Innovative Business and International Cooperation“ that was organized for representatives of the OECD and BRICS countries in the Czernin Palace on 14th November.
The emphasis was put on the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, which is based on the establishing and fostering contacts and supporting cooperation among governmental, academic and private sector and foreign institutions. Regarding the Czech R&D it is necessary to stress the role of other institutions that are responsible for this area, mainly the Ministry of the Education, Youth and Sports, CzechInvest or Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. Considering the Czech-Israeli scientific cooperation, several projects were mentioned, for example EUREKA CZ or programme Delta of the TACR focusing on countries outside the EU which should start its activity in spring 2014.
The agreement about the mutual Czech-Israeli cooperation has been already signed in 2008, however, both sides agreed on the fact that its implementation is not without problems, particularly due to the different criteria and attitudes on both sides. Yet, there is big potential in the field of the cooperation in R&D. It is, therefore, essential to further enhance this collaboration and find common way how to continue in it.
Mr Shelef affirmed that both Israel and the Czech Republic have a lot to offer and that both countries were good allies, in the politics, as well as economy or science. In the past, several mutual agreements were concluded, that is the reason why the Czech and Israeli side should follow this tradition and further promote mutual cooperation.
