Workshop „Supporting Innovative Business and International Cooperation“ for representatives of the OECD and BRICS countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout, the Chairman of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic Rut Bízková, the General Director of the CzechInvest Marian Piecha and the Special Envoy for Science and Technology of the MFA CR Petr Kaiser were the speakers at the workshop called „Supporting Innovative Business and International Cooperation“, which took place on 14th November 2013 in Czernin Palace. Representatives from the OECD and BRICS countries were informed about the current objectives and projects supporting international cooperation in the field of innovative entrepreneurship.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic considers promotion of the international cooperation in applied research as one of its priorities in the field of economic diplomacy. However, commercialization of new technologies and transfer of innovations from scientific to private sector and their transformation into global market´s products remain to be a challenge. In the Czech Republic, considerable financial resources have been invested in applied research, development and innovations. It is evident that these investments can produce economic benefits only if these technologies, developed by the Czech teams, enter the market - and not only domestic, but also foreign. However, commercialization of new technologies in the Czech Republic still does not reach the level of the most developed countries and requires further improvements; one of the ways is the transfer of knowledge and best practices from abroad.

Therefore, governmental institutions come up with new programmes supporting the commercial use of the applied research and innovations. Cooperation of the MFA with the TA CR and the CzechInvest in this field is an integral part of the partnership of diplomatic service with responsible resorts and governmental institutions in order to assist Czech scientists and innovators in establishing and strengthening their international relations which aims to bring economic gains.

At the seminar, new approaches of the MFA CR and its partnership institutions designed to promote innovative businesses in establishing international cooperation have been introduced. The ambassadors and other representatives of the OECD and BRICS embassies were also informed about the concrete projects including the Czech Technology Days and “Innovation” project created to help Czech innovative companies to expand to international markets. Moreover, diplomats were informed about the activities of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and its new programme DELTA focusing on bilateral cooperation and activities of the CzechInvest with its new incentives for investing into science and technology in the Czech Republic.
