Entry into the territory

(This article expired 19.01.2014 / 14:00.)

Terms and conditions of the entry into the territory of the Czech Republic/Schengen area are governed by the Schengen Borders Code.

State borders of the Czech Republic, which are internal borders within the Schengen area, may be crossed at any point by any person regardless their nationality without being subject to a personal border check.

Border controls are carried out only at external Schengen borders, i.e. at international airports of the Czech Republic during flights from/to countries outside the Schengen area. Border control consists in the minimum control to verify identity on the basis of a travel document (incl. identity cards). Control of documents includes checks for alteration or forgery by technical means and the inspection of the relevant databases to search solely for information about stolen, misused, lost or invalid documents.

A citizen of the EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein or Switzerland who has no travel document or cannot obtain it will be allowed by the police at the border to submit another document showing identity and citizenship.

The duty to present a travel document does not apply to a person below 15 years of age who is registered in the travel document held by another person with whom he/she travels.
