Beginning with 2 January 2009, the diplomatic missions are entitled to accept applications for the issue of a Green Card.  The Green Card is a new kind of long-term residence permit issued to aliens for employment purposes; at the same time, it is an employment permit and a permit for stay of the alien in the territory of the Czech Republic. Effective from 1 January 2009, conditions of the issue of the Green Card are regulated by Act No. 382/2008 Coll., amending Act No. 435/2004 Coll. on employment, as amended, Act No. 326/199 Coll. on the stay of aliens in the territory of the Czech Republic and on the amendment to certain laws, as amended, and other related laws.
