Representation Arrangements for Schengen Visa Issuance
31.03.2010 / 15:15
Code on Visas states that Member States should be present for visa purposes in all third countries whose nationals are subject to visa requirements. Members States lacking their own consulate in a given third country should endeavor to conclude representation arrangements in order to be represented in a given third country by a local consulate of another Member State.
Therefore, the Czech Republic negotiates with other Member States to conclude representation arrangements for Schengen visa issuance purpose in the third countries where the Czech Republic lacks own consulate and where the nationals are subject to visa requirements.
Czech Republic receives similar requests for representation in the third countries where the Czech Republic is present from other Member States as well.
When the representation arrangement is concluded, the consulate of the representing Member State accepts applications for short term visas on behalf of the represented Member State in the third country agreed. Applications have to fulfill requirements set by the representing consulate that is also making a decision on granting visas. Representation arrangements enable applicants to submit their visa applications in the country of their usual residence instead of traveling to the respective consulate in a different country and they significantly simplify access to the consular posts in order to apply for Schengen visas.
Applications for long term visas are not subject of representation arrangements and the applicants should submit their visa applications at the respective consulate of the Czech Republic
