The Czech Republic expresses its regret at the Israeli army operation in which eight Palestinian civilians were killed and another 1,500 lost shelter.

At the same time it however regards as inadmissible the use of civil premises by terrorist organizations for pressing for aims that are in principle opposed to the peace plan.

The Israeli struggle against terrorism must not lead to the escalation of tension. The Palestinian government, on its part, must take tough and uncompromising steps against the armed groups in harmony with its commitment in the Road Map.

The Czech Republic supports the role of the EU in the Middle East conflict and puts stress on objectivity in approaching the parties concerned. The Czech Republic is at the same time convinced that tactful diplomatic pressure would be more beneficial in the given situation than the policy of public resolutions or declarations.
