The Ministry of Foreign Affairs follows with attention and grave concern the cases of many representatives of Cuban political opposition currently standing trial as well as the already passed prison sentences and their length. The Czech Republic calls on the Government of Cuba to honour its international commitments and obligations related to the protection of human rights stressing the observance of the rules of just and impartial legal proceedings. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would welcome active cooperation of the Government of Cuba with the mechanisms of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and in particular with the personal representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Cuba. The Czech Republic at the same time offers Cuba its assistance in mediating this dialogue which should proceed from the already approved resolutions of the UN Commission on Human Rights.
