Deputy Minister Winkler Met Ambassador of Ukraine

 

The Czech Republic declares, that the second election round in Ukraine did not fulfill the rules of OSCE, Council of Europe and other european standards for democratic elections.(17:40, 23.11.2004)

vlajka UkrajinyIn accordance with the EU Council decision at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, 1st Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Security Policy Jan Winkler received on Tuesday 23rd November 2004 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Ivan Kuleba.

The situation in Ukraine after the 2nd round of Presidential elections was the issue of the meeting. With regard to the Czech participation in the team of OSCE observers and to the fact that the Czech Republic shares the EU information it can declare, that the 2nd round of elections did not fulfill the OSCE and Council of Europe rules and other European standards for democratic elections.

Deputy Minister Winkler, as well as his partners in EU member states, asked the Ambassador of Ukraine to signal to Kiev, that the EU is concerned about the future development in Ukraine. The attention to the development in this country reflects the importance of Ukraine in the eyes of the Czech Republic and EU partners. It is the belief of the Czech Republic, that Ukraine will not squander the chance for a deeper integration in the mainstream of the European development.
