On 30th November 2006, the Government of the Czech Republic decided that a transition period will not be used in the area of free movement of workers for citizens of Bulgaria and Romania after the entry of these countries into the EU on 1st January 2007.The Government based its decision on the fact that the free movement of workers is one of the four fundamental freedoms indispensable for a full-value membership of the EU member states and for the correct functioning of the EU single internal market.
After the 1st January 2007, workers from Bulgaria and Romania
will have the possibility to apply for work in the Czech Republic
without any limitation. Only in case of a serious threat to its
work market the Czech Republic would consider a possible use of
appropriate regulation measures.
