Minister Kohout attended the EU – Russia Summit in Khabarovsk

 

The leading themes of the proceedings of the EU – Russia Summit which took place in Khabarovsk were the financial and economic crisis, energy and climate change, EU – Russia relations, Euro-Atlantic security architecture and other international issues – Afghanistan, Pakistan, Georgia, Iran, Kosovo, Moldavia and Middle East Peace Process.

Summit EU - Russia - Jan Kohout, Sergei LavrovThe EU Troika was represented by the President Václav Klaus, who lead the EU delegation, President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy.

The EU delegation was further composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kohout, Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, Trade Commissioner Catherine Margaret Ashton and the Commissioner for External Relations and the Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

The Russian delegation was lead by the President Dmitry Medvedev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov being a member of the delegation.

Before the opening of the Summit a bilateral meeting took place between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout and of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov. It was their first meeting after Minister Kohout took office. Ministers assured each other of the quality, level and the importance of mutual relations between the two countries and promised to continue in their development.
