EU – Nigeria Troika Meeting

 

On Tuesday June 9th the EU – Nigeria Troika meeting at ministerial level took place in Prague.

Ojo MaduekweThe meeting was attended by the President of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout, on behalf of the European Commission by the Director for West and Central Africa, Caribbean and Overseas Countries and Territories Manuel Lopez-Blanco and on behalf of the General Secretariat of the Council by the Director of the Africa Unit José Costa Pereira. The Nigerian delegation was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Ojo Maduekwe. The Swedish party was represented by the State Secretary for Foreign Trade Gunnar Wieslander.

One of the main issues of the meeting was an arrangement of strategic frame of cooperation between EU and Nigeria which belongs among important EU partners in the Western Africa. New strategic frame is anchored in a document Nigeria-EU Joint Way Forward which develops relations in a frame of a political dialogue. During the meeting, the issues of EU – Nigeria relations, energy security, impact of the economic crisis, and Jan Kohoutregional integration were discussed too. Attention was also focused on security and political situation in the Sub-Saharan Africa countries (Mauretania, Guinea, Chad/Sudan, Gulf of Guinea/Niger Delta, security in Western Africa).
