MFA welcomes the European Commission's proposal to abolish the short-term visa requirement for former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro and Serbia

The European Commission proposed to adapt the list of third countries whose nationals must have a visa when crossing the EU external borders. Citizens of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia should be exempt from the visa requirement.

This step is a natural part of the Western Balkan countries moving towards the full integration in the European Union. The ease of travel will also advance mutual understanding and eliminate prejudice. Therefore, the visa regime liberalisation with the Western Balkan countries was one of the major priorities of the Czech Presidency in the Council of the EU.

The visa free perspective refers to the entire Western Balkans. Abolishment of the visa requirement is possible particularly due to the fulfilment of the conditions in the travel documents security, border control, migration and asylum policy and internal security.
