Expert mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic returned from Haiti

An expert mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic returned to Prague having been stayed in Haiti from January 29 to February 4. In an area stricken by a disastrous earthquake of January 12, the expert mission checked needs of a reconstruction. The expert mission looked for possibilities of the most efficient use of an humanitarian aid in an amount of 15 mil. CZK which was endorsed by the Government of the Czech Republic.

Experts discussed the matter with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti, resident coordinators of the UN and EU and representatives of non-governmental organizations, including People In Need. They had a meeting with Honorary Consuls of the Czech Republic in Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince too. The mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asserted the prime aim was to secure shelter for hundreds of thousands of people. Further priorities include reconstruction of schools, developing of public health infrastructure, building of infrastructure for authorities, police and justice of Haiti, launching projects of reconstruction of agriculture and local business activities.

Pieces of knowledge which were brought by the expert mission will be developed by the Ministry of Foreign affairs of the Czech Republic in a cooperation with non-governmental organizations and international partners to secure the most efficient help for Haiti.
