The Visegrad House is located in a bulding of former Cosulate General of the Czech Republic in Cape Town which was closed because of saving cuts in 2008. After the closing of the Cosulate General the building was still used by Czech diplomats for fulfillment of diplomatic and consular duties as Cape Town was a seat of the Parliament of South Africa and an important centre of Czechs living abroad.

At a meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group countries in Budapest in March 2010 ministers agreed on a strenghtening of cooperation of the member countries, even in remote territories. A pilot project of the cooperation is the Visegrad House in Cape Town, a buiding owned by the Czech Republic which is offered to the Visegrad Group partner countries for a joint use.

The cooperation based on a regular diplomatic and consular presence of the Visegrad Group countries will ensure a consular aid to Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovakian tourists and consular and visa services to citizens of the above-mentioned countries permanently living in Cape Town. A consular aid can be used already by visitors of the upcoming Fotball World Cup.
