(This article expired 29.04.2016.)

A visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout confirmed an excellent level of bilateral relations between the Holy See and the Czech Republic. Diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Czech Republic were restored 20 years ago. Jan Kohout was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. during a General Audience in St. Peter´s Square. Minister Kohout presented to the head of the Catholic Church the facsimile of the Kutna Hora Bible. The Kutna Hora Bible is the second complete edition of the Bible printed in Bohemia. It was printed in 1489.

Minister Jan Kohout met Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See Mons. Dominique Mamberti. Both representatives considered a convinience of arrangement of bilateral relations as well as relations between the State and the Church in the Czech Republic by means of the treaty concluded between the Holy See and the Czech Republic. The Holy See and the Czech Republic acknowledged the signing of the bilateral treaty from 2002. They decided to found a working group to evaluate the treaty and to make a blueprint for its ratification.

Jan Kohout and Dominique Mamberti emphasized the necessity of broad support for poverty-stricken countries and countries stricken by natural disastres and armed conflicts. They particularly underlined a need to help African and Caribbean countries.
