Minister Kohout visited Palestine

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout visited Palestine. His visit to Palestine followed a visit to Israel and was a demonstration of minister´s interest in a current situation in the region, its stability, prosperity and peace development which are of security and economic importance for the Czech Republic.

Jan Kohout met Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian National Authority Riyad al-Maliki, Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. They discussed current situation in the Middle East, peace development between Israel and the Palestine National Authority and in the region in general. The meetings were organized at the time when a shift to launch of Israel-Palestine indirect talks is expected.

The visit of minister Kohout was focused on Czech - Palestine bilateral issues too. The Palestine territories belongs to so-called project countries in terms of Czech development cooperation. The Czech Republic implemented 14 development projects in an amount of over 250 millions CZK in Palestine in 1996 - 2008. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout visited a venue of a project developing by Czech companies in Tubas. A transformers reparation centre crucial for reconstruction of electrification in the area should be completed there in following months.
