Minister Kohout attended a conference of EU and Western Balkans countries

 

A ministerial conference of EU and Western Balkans countries was held on June 1-2 in Sarajevo. It was focused on evaluating of progress of Western Balkans countries and openess of the European Union to the enlargement by Western Balkans countries. The conference was attended by the EU countries, all Wstern Balkans countries, including Serbia and Kosovo, and representatives of the USA, Turkey, Russia and international and regional organizations. The Czech Republic was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout.

Western Balkans countries made a distinct progress in many areas since 1990´s when they suffered from cruel war conflicts. The conference in Sarajevo was intended as a stimulus for the countries to further steps and reforms aimed on security and stabilization which would lead to integration of the Western Balkans to the European Union. Participants fully support the statement of EU Spanish presidency which proclaims the future of the Western Balkans lies in the European Union.

Minister Jan Kohout emphasized the Czech Republic supported continuing visa liberalization considering it to be one of the most tangible successes of Western Balkans countries on their way to EU.

Participants of the conference confirmed determination of the European Union to support the Western Balkans countries and their good neighbor relations.
