Czech Republic was elected to UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

 

The Czech Republic was elected to UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, having competed with six countries.

The Czech Republic obtained 75 votes from 106. Albania (86 votes) and Azerbaijan (72 votes) were elected in the same group as the Czech Republic. Latvia, Armenia and Hungary were not elected. The Committee is one of three the most important bodies of UNESCO which are in charge of the World Heritage List. The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage regards issues of identity rooted in past, including traditional art, crafts, etnography, traditional dance, music, observances and customs. It was adopted seven years ago. 123 states are members of the convention. The Czech Republic belongs among the best countries according the level of protection of intangible cultural heritage. Besides intense diplomatic activities, the fact was the main for electing the Czech Republic to the committee.
