Minister Schwarzenberg in Brussels

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg attended a Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) session on trade issues. The FAC session was focused on approval and signature of the Free Tade Agreement between EU and South Korea.

Ministers did not approved the final text of the Agreement at the session. FAC will return to the issue as soon as possible. South Korea is the 8th most important trade partner of the European Union. EU is the 2nd most important export destination for South Korea. The Czech Republic supported signature of Agreement during Czech Presidency in the European Union in 2009. Free Trade Agreement would offer opportunities for Czech businessmen in South Korean market.

Foreign Affairs Council further discussed negotiations of economic partnership agreements (EPA) with African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACP), and international investment policy.
