Minister Schwarzenberg met NATO Secretary General

 

First Deputy Prime Minister and MInister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg met NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Talks were focused on issues of Czech military presence in NATO operations and forthcoming NATO Summit in Lisbon K hlavním tématům rozhovoru patřily česká vojenská účast v operacích NATO a nadcházející summit NATO v Lisabonu (November 19 - November 20, 2010).

Karel Schwarzenberg a Fog RasmussenMinister Schwarzenberg assured Secretary General the new government of the Czech Republic considers NATO to be a fundamental pillar of Czech security and the most visible aspect of transatlantic dimension of Czech foreign and security policy. Minister Schwarzenberg informed Secretary General Rasmussen the Czech Republic needs to analyse involvement of the Czech Republic in KFOR regarding budgetary reasons. Particular ways of future involvement in NATO operations should be ratified by the Government and the Parliament of the Czech Republic at the end of November.

Minister Schwarzenberg emphasized the Czech Republic expects affirmation of NATO values based on collective defense regarding 21st century security environment from NATO Strategic Concept. The Czech Republic supports building of anti-missile defense system in the framework of NATO and is determined to take an active part in it.
