Minister Schwarzenberg met Sergey Lavrov

 

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Minister Lavrov expressed his cordial thanks to the Czech Republic for aid afforded to Russia during extensive forest fires this summer. It was a very pleasant meeting. According to minister Schwarzenberg, the Russian representative affirmed very good relations with the Czech Republic, especially in economic. Both ministers discussed issues of Czech-Russian relations and foreign policy. They discussed Issues of EU-Russia dialogue, including visas and the NATO-Russia Council were discussed too. One of discussed topics was future of The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. Both representatives presented their opinions on essential principles of the treaty.

Ministers talked about forthcoming meetings and events regarding dialogue of both countries. Karel Schwarzenberg repeated an invitation of president Klaus to president Medvedev and invited Sergey Lavrov to Prague.
