MInister Schwarzenberg visited Estonia

 

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg visited Republic of Estonia on November 16-17. Besides meetings with official representatives he visited the university town of Tartu and the local nursery school led by Czech nuns.

Minister Schwarzenberg and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Urmas Paet discussed issues of the Czech Republic-Estonia partnership and cooperation in the EU. They also touched issues of candidatures of seats of the European agencies and candidatures to international organizations. Estonia accedes the euro area on January 1, 2011. Therefore the issues of adopting a common currency, monetary policy coordination and discussion of changes to the EU were discussed too. The Ministers also exchanged views on EU relations to the third countries, mainly to Russia and discussed the position before the upcoming the NATO and OSCE Summit. Estonian Minister thanked to the Czech Republic for the protection of Estonian airspace which was provided by the Czech Gripen fighter aircraft. Both ministers devoted much of the meeting to the issues of the Eastern Partnership.

At the meeting with Prime Minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip bilateral issues, the Estonian internal politics, business cooperation and Estonia's accession to the eurozone were discussed. After meeting with the Prime Minister Minister Karel Schwarzenberg attended thedinner at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Estonia, Mr Thomas Henrik Ilves.

Before the official program in the capital Tallinn Minister Schwarzenberg visited the city of Tartu, the seat of an established major university, and looked at the local nursery school, in which Czech nuns teach. The history of the Catholic school in Tartu is associated with of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary from the beginning. Czech nuns arrived in Tartu and opened the school in 1938. The current school was restored in 1993 and 1994. Iin a very short time it became a much appreciated and a quality school in Tartu. Nowadays, there are two Czech and one Slovak nun at the school.
