Prague will host the EU agency for Galileo

Prague will host the prestigious EU Agency for Galileo – European GNSS Agency. EU ministers have unanimously supported the Czech bid at an intergovernmental conference in Brussels today.

Vice-prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Karel Schawarzenberg said: “This is an important event in the context of our EU membership, which dates back to 2004. The Czech Republic will now host the first EU Agency.”

The Agency underlines the Czech Republic’s image of a country with a long tradition of space research and of a respected partner in space issues.

The Agency could start operating in Prague within two years. Terms and timing of the relocation will be dealt with the European Commission and the Agency. It is clear that the relocation should not endanger neither the work of the Agency nor the development of the Galileo programme.

The Czech Republic has aspired for the seat of the Agency since 2006.
