Minister Schwarzenberg in the V4 Summit to the "Eastern Partnership"

 

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg attended the Visegrad Group (V4) Summit in Bratislava on Thursday, March 3, 2011.

The Summit held by the Slovakian V4 Presidency was focused on the "Eastern Patnership". The founding meeting of the Eastern Partnership was held in Prague during the Czech EU Presidency. The Summit in Bratislava was attended by foreign ministers of V4 member states and representatives of 6 countries included in the Eastern Partnership: Ukraine, Moldovao, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Foreign Minister of Germany Guido Westerwelle, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU Catherine Ashton and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle were among the guests of the Summit too.

Minister Schwarzenberg met his Armenian counterpart after the Summit. He discussed perspectives of bilateral relations with minister Eduard Nalbandian. Both ministers expressed interest in strengthening of political dialogue and regarded highly the opening of the Embassy of Armenia in Prague on March 1. Both ministers further discussed current issues of the South Caucasus.

Minister Schwarzenberg attended the panel discussion "EU Today and Tomorrow" in the Bratislava Global Security Forum and met representatives of the Belarus opposition at the end of his stay in Slovakia.
