Minister Schwarzenberg in Riga

 

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg accomplished a working visit to the Republic of Latvia on March 7, 2011. Minister Schwarzenberg met President Valdis Zatlers, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Foreign Minister Ģirts Valdis Kristovskis.

At the meeting with minister Kristovskis, minister Schwarzenberg appreciated cooperation of both countries and position of Latvia as a natural partner of the Czech Republic in the EU. The issue of the Czech candidature to the UN Human Rights Council and possible Latvian support was discussed too. Ministers agreed on representation of Latvia in visa issuance in Ghana. Contrary to Latvia the Czech Republic has its own embassy in Ghana. Both ministers put flowers on the Freedom Monument.

At the end of his stay, minister Schwarzenberg attended art works of Latvian children participating in the 39th International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. The art works are displayed in the City hall of Riga. The competition is very popular in Latvia being attended by pupils of more than one hundred schools with two thousands art works.
