The Czech Republic reopens its Embassy in Tripoli

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the stabilization of the security situation in Libya, decided to reopen the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tripoli. Mr. Josef Koutský, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Libya, returns to Libya on 13 October 2011.

The reopening of the Embassy will help to intensify the cooperation with the new interim government of Libya and other political representatives who will lead the country during the transitional period which will culminate by free elections. The Embassy, including its commercial and visa sections, will restore its activities in successive steps, which will depend on the local security situation and which will be coordinated with other EU Members.

Based on the results of the fact-finding mission to Libya, the Czech Republic will provide further humanitarian assistance – hospital equipment and sanitary goods in the value of  170 000 Euro. The Czech Republic stands ready to take part in the post-war reconstruction of Libya, be it in a bilateral way or as a part of a broader international effort of the EU, UN or NATO. We especially offer sharing our experience with the transition to the democratic political system.
