Deputy Minister Schneider held consultations in Moldova

On May 24, 2012, First Deputy Foreign Minister and Secretary of State for European Affairs Jiří Schneider held consultations in the Republic of Moldova.

Apart from a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca and consultations with his deputy Andrei Popov, First Deputy Minister Schneider met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov and had a debate with experts from non-governmental organisations dealing with the issue of Transnistria.

Topics of the bilateral consultations included political dialogue between the Czech Republic and Republic of Moldova, economic cooperation and current projects of Czech companies, development assistance and transition cooperation provided by the Czech Republic (Moldova is among priority target countries of bilateral development cooperation of the Czech Republic) and issues related to the European Union. In this regard Deputy Minister Schneider repeated assurances as to the Czech support to the European aspirations of Moldova. Possible progress regarding the Transnistria issue was discussed as well.

The consultations took place in the framework of the memorandum between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs on cooperation in the field of European integration signed by the foreign ministers of the Czech Republic and Republic of Moldova in 2010. Also, this year both countries commemorate the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.
