First Deputy Minister Jiří Schneider visited Romania

 

On 24 – 25 May 2012 the First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jiří Schneider paid a visit to Romania. He was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Marga and held talks with MFA State Secretaries Luminita Odobescu and Bogdan Aurescu.

He also met with the President´s Adviser for Security Issues Iulian Fota. The consultations focused on bilateral issues with a special attention paid to Czech investments in Romania and improvement of conditions for the development of mutual trade. They also discussed security issues including the recent NATO Summit in Chicago and the anti-ballistic missile shield, parts of which are to be placed in Romania. Also discussed were topical European issues, developments in the Western Balkans region, relations with the countries of Eastern Europe and Romania´s accession to the Schengen area.

Jiří Schneider attended, together with Romania´s former President Emil Constantinescu and State Secretary Luminita Odobescu, the inauguration of the avenue of lime trees planted in honour of Václav Havel and all fighters for freedom and democracy in the Izvor Park close to the Palace of the Parliament. The trees were donated by Czech companies to the city of Bucharest. The planting of the linden tree alley is part of the Czech Day at the Horticultural Days held on 24 - 27 May 2012 at the University of Agriculture in Bucharest with the contribution of the Embassy of the Czech Republic within the framework of economic diplomacy.
