Foreign Minister Schwarzenberg received U.S. Congressional delegation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg received on November 9, 2012, a delegation of the U.S. Congress visiting Prague to participate in the 58th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The Congressional delegation, including Members of both chambers of the U.S. legislature, the Senate and the House of Representatives, was led by John Boozman, U.S. Senator for the State of Arkansas.

Minister Schwarzenberg and the U.S. lawmakers stressed their joint attention to the maintenance and reinforcement of the transatlantic security architecture and emphasized the resilience needed to accomodate challenges posed to that architecture in times of stagnant growth and fiscal constraints. Elaborating on the latter, Minister Schwarzenberg briefed his interested Congressional interlocutors on the current economic developments in the European Union and the Eurozone. At the same time, the Minister made a point to underscore the bedrock of shared values invariably supporting the transatlantic relations across their entire range. The Minister and the Members of the Congress concluded in re-affirming the support for human rights and democracy as part and parcel of the Czech and U.S. foreign policy and thus a natural field of both countries´ mutual cooperation.
