Minister Kohout Approved Additional Humanitarian Aid for Syrian Refugees in Jordan

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Kohout met representatives of Czech humanitarian NGOs, which in cooperation with their local partners provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from Syria in Jordan. After the meeting, Minister Jan Kohout approved additional grants for this assistance.

Representatives of Caritas Czech Republic and Diacony of the Protestant Church of Czech Brethren informed about the critical humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees and IDPs affected by the conflict in Syria. They described their cooperation with local partners (Caritas Jordan and Lutheran World Federation, respectivelly) and highlighed the most pressured needs of the recipients, both in the Zaatari refugee camp and in the local communities.

Minister Kohout confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the improvement of humanitarian situation of people in Syria, as well as of the Syrian refugees in the neighbouring countries. After the meeting, the Minister approved additional assistance worth 4 mio CZK.

Since the start of the conflict in Syria, the Czech Republic has offered more than 39 mio CZK (2 mio USD) to the humanitarian assistance for the conflict-affected population in Syria, including the refugees from Syria in Jordan and Lebanon.

The Czech Republic also takes active part in the efforts for a lasting political solution of the conflict.
