The Czech Republic has welcomed the adoption of Resolution 1483 (2003) of the UN Security Council of May 22, 2003 which put an end to nearly thirteen years of economic sanctions imposed on Iraq and at the same time confirmed the vital role of the United Nations in the further development of Iraq. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic immediately afterwards drafted legislation to terminate restrictive measures against the Republic of Iraq to the extent approved by the Security Council which, after its approval by Government resolution No. 528 of May 28, 2003, were subject to further internal debate. The relevant regulations came into effect today by their publication in the Collection of Laws (No. 170/2003 and No. 171/2003).
