The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has received from the Sudeten German Social Service Working Group information on its project of a "Humanitarian Gesture in Respect of Particularly Heavily Affected Sudeten Germans" addressed to the Czech - German Future Fund.
The consideration of the project is within the competence of the Board of the Czech - German Future Fund. The Board, with equal representation of the Czech and German sides, already received a similar project in the past and found it incompatible with the mission and statutes of the Fund.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic recalls in this context the recent statement by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic that the raising of various claims created obstacles hindering the process of reconciliation and of coming to terms with the past. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is convinced about the irreversibility of this process and about the continuation of the positive development of Czech - German relations in the spirit of the 1997 Czech - German Declaration in which both parties pledged not to burden their relations with issues originated in the past.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recalls the statement of
the Government of the Czech Republic on the results of the
referendum, stressing the essential importance of European
integration for overcoming the horrors of the past and for
reconciliation between European nations.
