The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic continues to closely follow the development of the political crisis in Ukraine after the second round of Presidential elections.
The Czech Republic supported from the very beginning all iniciatives leading to the repetition of the second round of elections, especially the mediation efforts of Presidents Kwasniewski and Adamkus. The MFA highly appreciates and welcomes the just and objective decision of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, which confirmed that several articles of the Ukrainian constitution and of the presidential elections law were infringed and cancelled the results of the second round of Presidential elections. We congratulate the Ukrainian people for this decision. It is the opinion of the MFA that the current development confirms the readiness of the Ukrainian society to resolve the situation after elections independantly and in a democratic and constitutional way.
The Czech Republic appreciates the work of the Ukrainian
Parliament. We believe that its legislative effort will enable the
organisation of the second round of elections in the nearest legal
date recommended by the Supreme Court.
