Statement of the MFA on the Accomplishment of the Evacuation of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip and four settlements on the West Bank

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes that the evacuation of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip and the northern part of the West Bank is completed and states with satisfaction that the evacuation was conducted in accordance with the initial itinerary, in a quiet manner and without serious incidents.(24/8/2005)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes that the evacuation of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip and the northern part of the West Bank is completed and states with satisfaction that the evacuation was conducted in accordance with the initial itinerary, in a quiet manner and without serious incidents.

The decision of Israel to withdraw from these areas is a historical one and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly appreciates the political determination of the Israeli Government and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to complete this pragmatic, but for Israel a painful step.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates, that security forces of the Palestinian National Authority in cooperation with Israel also contributed to the undisturbed evacuation of Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes, that the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the northern part of the West Bank will be a starting point for a further positive development of the area and a catalyzer of the Near East peace process.
