Statement of the MFA on the Death of Simon Wiesenthal

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is deeply aggrieved by the death of Simon Wiesenthal. The former prisoner of twelve Nazi concentration camps, whose 89 relatives were among the victims of the Holocaust, died in Vienna at the age of 96 years.(21/9/2005)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is deeply aggrieved by the death of Simon Wiesenthal. The former prisoner of twelve Nazi concentration camps, whose 89 relatives were among the victims of the Holocaust, died in Vienna at the age of 96 years.

Simon Wiesenthal sought "justice, not vengeance", according to the title of his most famous book. He represented an ardent fighter against Nazism, anti-Semitism and racism. He devoted his life to bringing Nazi war criminals to justice. Simon Wiesenthal received the highest Czech State Distinction - the Order of the White Lion. He was awarded with Doctorates Honoris Causa of the Charles University in Prague as well as of Palacký University in Olomouc.
