The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its concern over the current development in Georgia and in relations between Georgia and Russia. The MFA calls on both countries for taking steps leading to an immediate decrease of tension and the renewal of dialogue.
The MFA believes that a solution at political level has to be found. Russian measures - financial and economic sanctions, are inadequate.
The Czech Republic supports a peaceful solution of conflicts in
Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia based on respecting the principles of
sovereignty and territorial unity of Georgia. Such solution would
contribute to political, economic and security stabilisation of the
whole region. In this perspective, the Czech Republic is ready to
support a larger involvement of the international community aimed
at arranging the situation and reaching a durable solution.
