Statement of the MFA on the Act of Vandalism at Olšany Cemetery

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses regrets over the act of vandalism perpetrated in the beginning of this week, which resulted in the damaging of 48 tomb stones of Red Army soldiers at Olšany cemetery in Prague.(13/7/2007)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses regrets over the act of vandalism perpetrated in the beginning of this week, which resulted in the damaging of 48 tomb stones of Red Army soldiers at Olšany cemetery in Prague.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns this act and fully endorses the engagements for the Czech Republic, which are embodied in the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Goverment of the Russian Federation on the mutual conservation of war graves from 1999.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is in
contact in this matter with other relevant authorities of the state
administration and is ready, in cooperation with these authorities,
to reach an adequate solution in the area of the protection of war
graves on the territory of the Czech Republic. The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs believes that the persons responsible for this act
of vandalism will be found and brought to justice as soon as
possible.
