Statement of the MFA on the Events in Belarus

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is concerned about the latest development of events in Belarus, which resulted in a brutal dispersion of demonstrants in Minsk on 12th December 2007.(18/12/2007)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is concerned about the latest development of events in Belarus, which resulted in a brutal dispersion of demonstrants in Minsk on 12th December 2007. As a result of the violent intervention of OMON special forces some participants were injured, including the leading representative of the movement Molodoj Front Dmitrij Fedaruk, who was transported to hospital with a brain concussion.
The Czech Republic calls on the Belarusian authorities for
abstaining from using force and for providing adequate medical care
to all affected people. The Czech Republic repeatedly calls on the
Government of Belarus for granting fundamental human rights to its
citizens, including the right of free expression and the right of
assembly.
