In this moment it is important for this country agitated by violence, that Saddam Hussein was lawfully sentenced by an Iraqi court. Iraq settles up with his past and it is also at least a partial satisfaction for the relatives of the victims of Saddam Hussein´s crimes.
Despite the fact that death sentence is contradictory to European values, the execution of Saddam Hussein´s sentence has to be considered from the point of view of present Iraq.
There are still many supporters of former Iraqi President in
Iraq and we can expect therefore that the execution of the sentence
will raise in a short-term inquietude in the country. We believe
nevertheless that from the long-term point of view, the ending of
Saddam Hussein´s era will bring Iraq closer to stability and
democracy.
