On 2nd February 2007, Special Envoy of UN Secretary-General M. Ahtisaari presented in Belgrade and Pristina a proposal solving the final status of Kosovo. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its full support to this proposal. The MFA considers this proposal to be a balanced compromise, which will ensure security, stability, the defence of human rights and the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, and economic prosperity. The solution of the status of Kosovo will also facilitate in a significant way the accession of countries in the region to European and Euro-atlantic structures.

The MFA calls on the representatives in Belgrade and Pristina for supporting the proposal of M. Ahtisaari and facilitating further negotiations at the UN. Another postponement of the solution could have a negative influence on security and stability in the whole region.
