Statement of the MFA on the So Called „Elections to Local Municipalities“ in Nagorno-Karabakh

On 14th October 2007, the so called „elections to local municipalities“ took place in the Nagorno-Karabakh. It is the opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that elections to local municipalities in Nagorno-Karabakh can be recognised as legitimate only if the refugees are allowed to return to their homes and take part in the elections.(16/10/2007)
On 14th October 2007, the so called "elections to local municipalities" took place in the Nagorno-Karabakh.
It is the opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that elections to local municipalities in Nagorno-Karabakh can be recognised as legitimate only if the refugees are allowed to return to their homes and take part in the elections.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that such unilateral acts do not contribute to the efforts of the international community aimed at reaching a peaceful solution of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Czech Republic fully supports the activity of the OSCE Minsk
Group and its Co-Chairmans and calls on all parties involved in the
conflict for further peace processes.
