Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on the continued detention of four Georgian minors by de facto South Ossetian authorities

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic expresses its deep concern over the repeated cases of detention of Georgian citizens by de facto South Ossetian authorities. The recent incident involving four Georgian minors is particularly disturbing.

The detention of minors directly contradicts the spirit of international norms concerning treatment of minors in conflict zones. Incidents of this kind contribute to increased tensions and instability in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic calls for the immediate release of the detained persons and urges all parties to make every effort to avoid similar incidents in the future.
