Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on completion of accession negotiations between EU and Croatia

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic welcomes the completion of the accession negotiations between the EU and Croatia and considers it as a very important moment for the future of the EU, Western Balkans region and the EU's enlargement policy.

"I am very pleased to hear this long-awaited news. I also warmly congratulate the Croats and I look forward to our cooperation within the Union, "said First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic congratulates Croatia on the historic success that was achieved through extraordinary efforts and tangible results of the Croatian Government and Croatian citizens during the accession negotiations. In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic appreciates the European Commission, the EU´s Presidency and all EU Member States for their intense activities during last weeks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic expects that the completion of accession talks with Croatia will increase the stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans and will bring other Western Balkan countries closer to the EU membership.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic believes that the accession treaty between the EU and Croatia will be signed by the end of the year and Croatia enters the EU on 1st July 2013.
