Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on murders in Houla

Czech Republic is deeply appalled by the tragic death of more than a hundred civilians including many children in the Syrian city of Houla. We condemn this act in the strongest words possible.

We call on all parties to the conflict to live up to their obligations stemming from the international law and to uphold the six-point plan of Kofi Annan, which we see as the best available way to reach the end of the senseless bloodshed in the country. Czech Republic support of the Annan Peace Plan was also confirmed by sending three Czech observers to the United Nations Supervission Mission in Syria (UNSMIS).

Ministry of Fireign Affaires summoned Syrian chargé d´affaires a. i., in Prague on May 30, 2012, to express its outrage at the murders in Houla, our clear and strong condemnation of such crimes and the necessity to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.
