General Affairs Council session

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg attended General Affairs Council (GAC) session. It was focused on preparation for the European Council on Thursday, September 16 in Brussels which would be attended by Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Nečas and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg.
According to minister Schwarzenberg the talks were constructive. At the same time he pointed out the Czech Republic have concerns on issues of strengthening economic cooperation handled by Task Force led by Herman van Rompuy.
GAC agreed on necessity of strengthenining of sanctions system. Although the Czech Republic supports its implementation, the Czech Republic points out necessity of legal analysis of particular possibilities of the implementation. It is not possible to implement any sanctions outside legal framework of current shape of primary law or sanctions not regarding equal treatment of member states. Rigor of sanctions should reflect membership in eurozone.
