With great concern and sadness, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has received the news of the death of three local employees of the Czech non-governmental humanitarian organization, People In Need, in Syria. They died in a random mortar attack. The Ministry would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, who had risked their lives to provide material assistance to their compatriots in need, often under extreme and difficult circumstances.
With regard to the conflict in Syria, the Czech Republic has consistently argued that indiscriminate bombardment of civilian residential areas is an unacceptable, inhuman war practice. Czech diplomacy will continue to promote an expeditious move towards a peaceful solution to the conflict, and, especially, the establishment of a full ceasefire between the two sides.
