Ukraine: Minister Zaorálek´s Statement on the Russian Stance
01.03.2014 / 21:25
The manner in which the Russian Federation is escalating the situation in Ukraine reminds me of 1968 and the violation of Czechoslovak sovereignty.
I unambiguously reject and condemn the steps taken by the Russian Federation over the recent days. In Europe, we do not and cannot accept that differences are resolved by force. Everyone, including Russia, must respect international law and its obligations. In Budapest in 1994, Russia has committed, not only to respect Ukraine´s territorial integrity and sovereignty, but also to guarantee them. It is unacceptable for the Russian Federation to not take seriously even its own words and commitments. Such behavior could not be left unanswered.
