Ukrainian Ambassador received at the MFA

On 28 January, the Director General of the European Countries Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jaroslav Kurfűrst, received the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, Borys Zaichuk, to convey his concerns over the ongoing provocations and cases of brutal intimidation, including numerous kidnappings of non-violent civic activists in Kyiv and other cities.

He also protested against the attempts of some official representatives of Ukraine to blame European Union countries and the United States for the violence taking place in the country, and stressed our readiness to assist the Ukrainian government in establishing a genuine dialogue with representatives of the civil society and to contribute to the resolution of the present deep and dangerous political crisis in the country. He also warned against the possible declaration of the state of emergency, as it might lead to further escalation of tension.

Ambassador Zaichuk expressed his conviction that perpetrators of the crimes, even those belonging to police units, would not go unpunished, and stressed that the Ukrainian leadership was committed to a non-violent resolution of the present situation.
